Community Grants Help Nurse Practitioners Improve the Health of Texans
Alina Matutes-Eckhardt
Leigh Ann Ware
Community Grants Awarded in 2006
The 2006 recipients of the TNP
Foundation Community Service Grants were Leigh Ann Ware, and Alina
Matutes-Eckhardt. Ms. Ware submitted a proposal to fund the extension
of services to pediatric patients by setting up a satellite clinic in
Floresville - which is in Wilson County. Presently, most of the
patients in this county must travel between 25-75 miles to San Antonio
for care. With the establishment of the satellite clinic, the children
in this county will be able to obtain quality health care more
conveniently. The second recipient, Ms. Matutes-Eckhardt, was given
the grant to continue her original project to fund health education
television programs by nurse practitoners to be aired on the local
cable network in the San Antonio area. We congratulate these
outstanding grant recipients.
Alina Matutes-Eckhardt, and Angela
K Phillips were the recipients of the very first community grants which
were awarded in 2005. The Grant awarded to Ms. Eckhardt was entitled
titled
"Health Education for Patients through Public Access Television".
The Grant awarded to Ms. Phillips was entitled"Improving outcomes of
Type II Diabetes Mellitus through nurse practitioner care and
education". Both projects represent a dedication to the mission
of the Texas Nurse Practitioner Foundation which is to increase access
to quality health care to Texans and improve their health. The
Texas Nurse Practitioner Foundation is proud to be a part in this
mission.
